This unique new data control offers subsecond record-level access from your PC to your AS/400. Fast AS/400 record-level access has always been the main problem facing developers attempting to connect PC applications to the AS/400 – either the connection was too slow to be useable or the development effort was too difficult. TECA Data400 solves both of these problems. TECA Data400 uses DDM for high speed access to the AS/400. DDM provides the fastest possible record-level access to the AS/400 without the need for any extra host components. Applications using the TECA Data400 control achieve response time that’s comparable to native RPG and COBOL applications -- subsecond response time is typical.

The TECA Data400 data control is also extremely easy to use. A fully bound data source control, TECA Data400 is able to bind AS/400 database files and fields to standard data bound controls like labels, text boxes, combo boxes, list boxes and grids. This ability makes it possible to put together a simple Windows 95/NT application that connects to the AS/400’s database in a matter of minutes – without writing any code. In addition, a complete COM library is also provided with the TECA Data400 control that enables the development of more complex applications. Unlike PC oriented data access libraries like DAO, RDO or ADO, the TECADBO COM library has been designed specifically for AS/400 developers and uses familiar object concepts like file and fields.

Compatibility and Requirements

TECA Data400 is compatible with any number of popular Windows 95/NT development environments including Visual Basic 5.0, Visual Basic 4.0, Delphi 3.0, Delphi 2.0 and many other COM compliant development environments. For SNA connections, TECA Data400 requires IBM’s Client Access for Windows 95/NT or any other third party AS/400 connectivity product that provides the NS/Router. Native TCP/IP connections do not require any additional connectivity products.

Licensing and Technical Support

Available in January 1998, the license fee for TECA Data400 is based on the AS/400 processor group with prices beginning at $800. Free technical support is provided for the first 30-days.
