January 3, 1996 -- TECA Inc. today released TECA Custom Controls for the AS/400, the easiest way for client/server professionals to access the AS/400 from VB without tediously coding the Client Access APIs. TECA Custom Controls are a set of VBXs that provide access to AS/400 file transfer, data queues, and remote commands. Using these custom controls VB developers can quickly develop AS/400 client/server applications with no low-level coding.

Simple to install and use, TECA Custom Controls for the AS/400 allow client/server developers to be instantly productive using Visual Basic’s RAD (Rapid Application Development) environment to connect to the AS/400. Fully integrated with the VB development environment, the TECA Custom Controls allow full use of the CA/400 API’s by simply setting the properties of each control. There is no need to spend long hours of trail-and-error effort struggling with the correct functions and parameter usage for the Client Access APIs.

The FileTransfer/VBX provides easy and seamless file transfer between the AS/400 and the PC. The complete functionality of the file transfer API can be accessed using the File Transfer/VBX including the ability to send and receive database files, source files, and templates. The FileTransfer/VBX also extends the functionality of the API by providing the option to perform full file transfer with automatic ASCII-EBCDIC conversion. In addition, no .FDF files are required in order to send data to the AS/400.

The DataQueue/VBX also supports the full functionality of the Client Access data queue API including the ability create and use both keyed and non-keyed data queues as well as the ability to peek at data queue entries. No host component is required to use DataQueue/VBX.

The RemoteCommand/VBX executes commands on the AS/400 by simply setting properties in the control. Commands can be executed synchronously or asynchronously which allows the PC to perform multitasking while the AS/400 command is being executed.

The INI/VBX allows "no code" access to custom configuration values that are stored in private INI files. The INI/VBX provides the ability to both read and write INI files and entries, without resorting to directly using the Windows APIs.

All of the TECA Custom Control VBXs can be used in VB’s design mode without requiring an active connection to the AS/400. This allows developers to write client/server programs off-line from the AS/400.

Each custom control comes with an example interactive program complete with the source code that illustrates using the custom controls in the VB development environment. The properties for each control are fully documented and a tutorial is provided that steps you through building your own client/server applications with each custom control.

TECA Custom Controls for the AS/400 is available immediately and is priced at $395.00 for the package
of four VBXs. Each individual custom control is also available separately and are priced as follows: RemoteCommand/VBX $95.00; DataQueue/VBX $145.00; FileTransfer/VBX $165.00; INI/VBX $25.00. For a promotional period, until March 31st,1996, the INI/VBX will be included with the purchase of any of the other TECA Custom Controls.
